KCS Schoology Parent Guide
Sign Up
- Go towww.schoology.com. Use a personal email account. (Note: Students log in at Kanawha.schoology.com.)
- ClickRegisterat the top of the page and chooseParent.
- Enter your Parent Access Code. This is a 12-digit code inxxxx-xxxx-xxxxformat that you receive fromone of your child's teachers or administrators.
- Fill out the form with your information.
- ClickRegisterto complete. Keep the password that you create in a safe place.
When you use a Parent Access Code to create an account, you areautomatically associated to your child. You can add additional children toyour accountusing theAdd Child button.
Notes:
Parent Access Codes are unique to each student, but can be used to make multiple parent accounts.For example, a mother and father may each create a Schoology account using the same Parent Access Code.
If your Parent Access Code does not allow you to register, or if the code does not have 12 digits, please contact your child's teacher or administrator for more information.
Login
Enter your Email Address and Password that you created to log in. Teachers and administrators will not be able to provide this information. Reset through parent accounts Schoology if necessary.
Email Login
- Go to www.schoology.com
- ClickLog Inon the top right.
- Enter your Email Address and Password.
- ClickLog in.
Home Page
Having a Parent account in Schoology is actually like having two accounts:
- Your personal account has your name and contact information. Use this to message teachers and administrators.
- From your Child Activity view, you can view Schoology from your child’s perspective, see what he or she sees, and receive updates about his or her activity.
Start by clicking on the arrow in the upper-right corner next to your name, and then select your child’s name to switch into his or her account. The check mark in this drop-down menu indicates which account you are currently viewing.
Add Child Associations
If you already have a parent account in Schoology for one child, you can add additional children to your account:
- Log in to your Schoology account using your username or email address and password.
- Click the arrow next to your name in the top-right corner.
- Click theAdd Childbutton.
- Enter theChild Codefor the child you're adding. This is the same asyourParent Access Code, the 12-digit code inxxxx-xxxx-xxxxformat that you receive fromone of your child's instructors.
- If your code does not look like this code, contact your child's instructor or school.
- Click theUse Codebutton to complete. Now, you can change between your children in Child Activity view.
Account Notifications - Email
You can select which notifications you would like to receive from courses and groups in which you're enrolled.
To turn off all email notifications for your account, clickTurn Off All Notifications.
To customize your notifications, follow these directions:
- Click thearrow next to your name on the top rightside of Schoology.
- SelectSettingsfrom the drop-down menu.
- Click theNotificationstab.
- Select the button next to the notifications you want to change.
- ChooseOn(receive from all sources),Off(the default setting), orCustom(pick and choose the sources).
- ClickSave Changesat the bottom.
Account Notifications - Text
You can link your mobile phone to your Schoology account by following these directions:
- Click the arrow in the upper right corner of Schoology.
- SelectSettings.
- Click theNotificationstab.
- ClickSend notifications to your phone via text message boxto the right.
- Enter your Cell Phone Number (your number remains hidden from other Schoology users).
- Choose your Country.
- Select your wireless Carrier.
- ClickSet Mobileto complete.
To edit or remove your cell number:
ClickEditnext toMobile Phoneto the right of Notifications:
Account Settings
Depending on the permissions enabled in your account, you can change the name you display to other Schoology users. Selectthe arrow at the top rightof the page next to your name and then select Account Settings.
Account Privacy
Schoology allows you to customize the level of privacy on your account. You can access your Privacy Settings by:
- Selecting thearrow in the upper rightcorner of the page.
- Clicking Settingsin the dropdown.
- Clicking Privacy Settings.
- Changing the settings by clicking in an empty box.
The left column correlates with the type of content in question. The column headings indicate the level of user that has access to view the information contained in the content. User Privacy Settings are defined by five categories:
- Everyone:The feature is visible to anyone with access to the Internet. This includes non-Schoology members worldwide.
- Schoology Users:The feature is visible to users logged into Schoology. This includes Schoology users in other schools.
- School:The feature is visible to users in the same school.
- NoOne:The feature is hidden from everyone.
Parent Email Digest
- Click the arrow on the top right of Schoology.
- Select a child from the list that appears in the drop-down menu.
- Once you're viewing the child's account, click the downfacing arrow again.
- SelectSettings.
- From theNotificationstab, you can elect to receive one or both of two email summaries:
- To receive theParent Email Digest, selectOnin yourEmail Summarymenu.
You can receive emails on aDailyorWeeklybasis. If you chooseDaily, you may set a time at which the notification will be sent to your inbox. If you chooseWeekly, you'll have an additional option to select the day of the week you'd like to receive the email.
Note: If there are no updates for the given time period, you will receive an email stating that there are no new updates.
- To receive theOverdue Submissions Email, selectOnin theEmail Notificationmenu.
- ClickSave Changesto update your settings.
Profile
Your personal profile contains information about you and your activity on Schoology such as your interests, contact information, and child associations.
To access your profile:
- Click your name in the upper-right of the header in Schoology.
- ClickYour Profile.
Schoology users that click on your name in Schoology will also be taken to your profile. You can control who can view your profile by adjusting yourAccount Privacy Settings.

Clever.com has many online textbooks and programs used by Kanawha County Schools.
They just go to clever.com choose sign in as student and choose their school.
Students use that same Schoology username and password.
